Taking inspiration from SpecE46 racing we have designed a racing specification for 1999 - 2006 BMW E46 to compete in ARA Limited 2WD rally racing. We have made several accommodations to better suit rally racing and allow for a bit more freedom in the build process but still align with the ARA L2WD ruleset. The goal is competitive racing at an affordable cost.
Why E46? The E46 chassis was a huge seller in the U.S. compared to the E36. As of 2025, good donors are widely available on the used car market and parts availability is very good. There are few options for such a well balanced rear wheel drive chassis that performs great with minimal modification.
This spec class is based on an E46 325i with the M54B25 or M52TUB25 engine. Sedan or coupe is allowed but most of the chassis and suspension geometry is to remain stock. This class is limited to rear wheel drive models only. A full rule set will be published once available. Please refer to the ARA Technical Rules in the meantime: https://www.americanrallyassociation.org/rulesandbulletins
A points system will be determined to allow competitors to compete throughout the year. Points will be awarded based on class or overall finish position at different races held throughout the year. Competitors may not need to compete at the same events to earn points. A championship prize will be awarded yearly.
